My wallet officially hates Cornboy for telling me about these critters.
They're a lot like Xevoz, and perhaps a cousin to Bionicle. Same basic deal. You buy the canister and get about 30-50 pieces to build either a dinosaur or an alien skeleton. Can't go wrong with that formula. At between $10 and $15 per set (there are standard and deluxe sizes), the price is actually a little more affordable than recent Bionicle sets.
Since these guys are SO similar to Xevoz, and maybe even MagnaBones, I almost feel like the manufacturer could get sued over it. That is, if it weren't for the *flexible joint* gimmick. It's more like an afterthought, really. Each set comes with a little pouch which contains anywhere from 2 to 4 flexi-joints that can be added at any connection point on the figure. These pieces don't really serve much of a purpose, but you can have some fun with them.
The larger sets like Spinosaurus and OctoAttack have built-in action features. Spinosaurus's skull and jaw are connected permanently, but you can open the mouth and let it snap shut. OctoAttack has a somewhat interesting "headbutt" type feature that relies on a rather large piece of flexible plastic, making that particular toy most true to the name "Skeleflex."
All Skeleflex pieces are interchangeable, so with each set you buy, you can build larger and larger beasts. So far I've only managed to create long, leviathon-type creatures, but I'm working on a few ideas for upright monsters. I'll post more photos later.
For now, I recommend these to anyone who likes building they own figures and has already had fun with Xevoz or Bionicle. It's an improvement on an idea, in my opinion, and well worth the price.
TOYSRUS.com has a few items I haven't seen in stores yet, like the giant T-Rex with base, and colored 2-packs of the standard sets. If you're ordering online, avoid the official site and go for the TRU website:

Posted - 09/14/2009 : 08:44:22 Those actually look pretty cool. Too bad my nearest TRU is an hour away. I would have picked up some of the other ones on clearance and I would be keeping an eye on these ones. |

I forgot to post about these a couple weeks ago when I saw them. They were spread out and tucked away behind other products. Kind of interesting. The thing is, when my Skeleflex aren't in a shoebox, I display them more as humanoid action figures anyway. The new head, hand and armor pieces are cool, but I'm not sure they're cool enough to buy at full price. I got burned because I bought a bunch at full price the first time around, and they ended up going on clearance for a long while. The first assortment is still at least 50% off at some Toys'R'Us stores that still have them.
I don't know. Maybe these would be worth picking up to really customize with paint. In my opinion, the lack of color is what's killing these guys. It worked for the dinosaur bones, but at this point I need a little more bang for my buck. |

Actually, I think the coupon is for a $10 giftcard if you spend $75 or more. They're getting sneaky with their "deals" these days. But yeah, I saw the same flier, and I'm now considering finally picking up the Triceratops Skeleflex if I can find it this week. That'll be the end for me, unless they put out newer sets.
Yeah, you are right Ed, it is a $10 giftcard. Still a good deal though. If anyone wants it, let me know. |

Posted - 11/01/2008 : 15:48:59 Hey guys.....I'm still yet to buy any of these, but I was just going through the Toys-R-Us circular that starts tomorrow (11-2-08)....and this week they have all Skeleflex for 25% off. Pretty good deal so I thought I would give you Skeleflex guys a heads up.
Also, in that circular, there is a coupon for $10 off $75. I still need to check if I am going to buy anything (Skeleflex in particular), but if I don't, does anybody need this coupon. If your sure you can use it, let me know and I will mail you mine if I don't use it. Let me know.
